Greetings to all: On behalf of the many who enjoyed the delicious dinner, the fun games of bingo, and the fellowship last Saturday night,---thanks to the youth and the youth ministers who planned, cooked, and served the meal. We appreciate the time and effort you gave to this. Fun time had by all.
Our readings this weekend continue with the Sermon on the Mount. Imagine sitting on a hillside (similar to the amphitheater at Krug park) on a warm sunny day. If you have ever been to Israel and visited the Church of the Beatitudes (built on the site where Jesus preached) it is easy to see how all this worked. While there we were told that Jesus was standing at the bottom and preaching to the people on the (mountain-like) hillside. The rock amplified the voice of Jesus, so his voice was easy to hear and understand. There is great anticipation about what he will say. Then he begins to speak: “Blessed…….” And if that is shocking, just wait! He then says, “YOU are the salt of the earth. YOU are the light of the world.” This is such a different teaching. How am I blessed? How am I the salt or the light? What does that even mean? Why does Jesus use such terminology? Remember, the mission of Jesus is much different than any other who came before him. His mission is to bring us all to the Father. A recognition that we are “blessed” and “light” and “salt” is both a calling and a challenge. Do you accept the call? Do you accept the challenge?
How about those KC Chiefs headed to Super Bowl LVII! Fantastic!
Here is a SOUPER-BOWL challenge for both parishes:

Most of you will gather to watch the big game along with sandwiches, wings, pizza, chips etc. and various beverages to enjoy. Let's do what we can to help those who are hungry.

St. Rita Building update: At a recent meeting we learned the cost of Phase I of the St. Rita Building Project: replacement of all windows. This part of the project will cost around $150K. Thus far we have collected a bit over $101K. If all goes well and we get the windows ordered soon and we might be able to start the replacement work in late spring. Let's see if we can get enough money collected so we can pay off Phase I, and then move on to Phase II.
