BUILDING & RENOVATION COMMITTEE
ST. RITA’S
Attendance: Father Paul Turner, Karen C= haney, Tom Hamlet, Joe Seuferling, M= aureen Foster, Bill Kemper, John Whi= te, General Contractor.
Move and Groundbreaking: The move from St. Munch= in to St. Rita September 2 was incredibly quick and smooth due to the planning and coordination of Dan Tvrdy and Tom Hamlet and all of the parishioners who volunteered their help. Fathe= r Paul said he has heard nothing but compliments on the set up and the environment. Daily Mass is being celebrated in the downstairs area and is working well w= ith the smaller group. Approximately 25 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony on September 12 to bless the start of the construction and renovation phase of= the project.
Meeting with Diocesan Reps, GLPM, and Contractor= : Father Paul met with Bob Jones, Max Thompson, Tom McCasland, and John White to review project start = up details. Principles involved = in the project were identified: Tom McCasland, AIA, Project Manager; David Vance, Project Architect; Dave Livingood, Principal in Charge; Jesse White, General Contractor; Bob Jones, Owner Representative; Father Paul Turner, Onsite Representative.
It was proposed that 6 meetings be scheduled, one per = month throughout the project, to review progress, problems, etc. Bob Jones stated he preferred 12 meetings, possibly on Wednesdays with one or two representatives from the Building and Renovation Committee also attending. Tom Hamlet and Joe Seuferling volunteered to attend when available with a preference for late afternoon meetings. Maureen Foster will attend as necessary.
The official start date for the project was September = 14 with a projected end date of March 12.&nbs= p; White construction will provide bar graph of project timelines to the Project Manager next week. The ground prep was scheduled for the end of this week and Monday with foundati= on work started by the end of next week.
Bob Jones requested that all contracts for projects ou= tside of the scope of the construction contract be provided to him for review, i.= e. flooring, sound systems, altar, furnishings, etc. He also asked that anyone= not involved in working on the project stay off of the construction site. There could be a couple of tours scheduled with the General Contractor for parishioners to view progress.
Construction Issues: The committee= went with John White to the church to discuss construction issues. The first discussion concerned the height and width of the opening on the former cry room. Due to a steel header in place ove= r the current opening, John suggested leaving the height at that level which woul= d be approximately a foot lower than the opening on the east. The majority of the committee felt= the openings should be symmetrical and they needed to be as wide as possible to keep the feel of an open space and not an enclosed room. This will need to be reviewed with= Tom McCasland.
The weak flooring on the east corner near the former m= usic area was discussed and John said it would be worked on this week with C cha= nnels and reinforcement.
The chimney in the former cry room will be removed this weekend and the electric outlets on the outside of the front of the church = will be removed Friday.
One of the questions asked by Dan Tvrdy by email conce= rned the cost of dry walling the east and west walls of the nave from the wainsc= ot to the ceiling. After discuss= ion about wrapping the sides of the windows and leaving the wooden sills extend= ed, John said he could provide an estimate of the cost.
A question was raised about the extent of the demoliti= on of the sidewalks and patio area. It was suggested that the running of plumbing lines necessitated an area outsi= de of the foundation be cleared.
